摘要: Summary Reason for performing study: To elucidate the highly contentious role of copper in pathogenesis osteochondrosis. Hypothesis: There would be no relationship between liver concentration mares and foals incidence radiographically detectable osteochondrotic lesions yearlings was tested. Methods: Liver assessed biopsies taken within 4 days after birth from both same at age 5 months. Biopsies were standing, sedated animal under ultrasonographic guidance. Radiographs hocks (lateromedial, dorsoplantar dorsomedial-plantarolateral oblique views) stifles (lateromedial caudolateral-craniomedial ages 11 months scored presence severity lesions. Results: Copper concentrations newborn high with a large variation (351 ± 201 mg/kg DM). They declined until reaching values comparable to those mature animals (20 8 DM; mares: 19 20 Radiographic decreased number This pattern more predominant stifle than hock, as has been described previously. Conclusions: foal or mare osteochondrosis status either However, low-level significantly less high-level birth. Potential relevance: It is concluded that not likely an important factor aetiopathogenesis osteochondrosis, but this study indicates there may significant effect on natural process repair early lesions.
