摘要: Conservation genetics can provide data needed by conservation practitioners for their decisions regarding the management of vulnerable or endangered species, such as sun bear Helarctos malayanus. Throughout its range, is threatened loss and fragmentation habitat illegal trade both live bears parts. Sharply declining population numbers sizes, a lack natural dispersal between populations all threaten genetic diversity remaining this species. In first study using microsatellite markers, we analyzed 68 samples from Cambodia to investigate structure diversity. We found evidence two genetically distinct in West East Cambodia. Ongoing recent gene flow these does not appear sufficient alleviate populations, one which (West Cambodia) characterized significant inbreeding. were able assign 85% unknown origin with high confidence (assignment probability ≥ 85%), providing valuable information future reintroduction programs. Further, our results suggest that developed land (mostly agricultural mosaics) acts barrier highlight regional action plans should consider promoting connectivity enforcing wildlife protection
