摘要: Seeds of two coastal sand dune wild legumes, Canavalia cathartica and maritima from the west coast India were analyzed for their nutritional antinutritional properties. The seeds contained 35.5 34.1% crude protein, 52.8 50.5% carbohydrates, 1.3 1.7% lipids 3.1 3.5% ash content, respectively. Among minerals, potassium was highest followed by phosphorus. Globulins albumins constituted major seed proteins both plants. Most essential amino acids at adequate levels. Although below 2%, unsaturated fatty high. did not contain tannins trypsin inhibitors. levels total phenolics low, but showed high hemagglutination activity. properties these have been compared with other spp. unconventional or tribal legumes. Overall, study results suggest that C. possess potential nutritive value particularly higher low factors. These legumes are adapted to nutrient, saline drought conditions dunes; conservation domestication warranted as alternative sources protein.
