Contraceptive counseling and use among 197 female kidney transplant recipients.

摘要: BACKGROUND: There is growing interest about the quality of life female transplant recipients including their sexual and reproductive health. Although menstrual irregularity infertility are common in women with advanced chronic diseases most regain function shortly after transplantation. Because an unplanned pregnancy soon transplantation can expose both mother fetus to considerable risk it recommended that these should receive contraceptive counseling. However actual implementation effectiveness this recommendation has not been extensively studied. METHODS: A total 197 age stable kidney graft attending a large Brazilian clinic were interviewed. They asked pattern activity counseling use methods before transplant. RESULTS: Before 70.6% reported 91.9% them sexually active 74.1% counseled contraception 86.3% used some method. After 50.2% had 79.7% 48.7% advised contraceptives 72.1% actually using there 14 pregnancies 11 92.9% (13/14) unplanned. CONCLUSIONS: many need for did any form birth control. Health professionals involved management patients include as part routine care.
