摘要: Abstract Employing isotope equipment which produces a continuous recording of C14O2 specific activity in expired air, the oxidative patterns palmitate-1-C14, acetate-1-C14, pyruvate-1-C14, glucose-1-C14 and glucose-6-C14 were studied hyperthyroid, hyyothyroid hypopituitary patients compared with normal controls. Several restudied following non-specific treatments. A qualitative estimation proportion glucose oxidation proceeding via pentose “shunt” was obtained by comparing C-1 versus C-6 labeled glucose-C14. Results indicate that hypothyroidism is characterized significant increase relative rates C14-palmitate acetate decrease oxidation, particularly regard to activity. In contrast, hyperthyroidism show variable pattern depending on duration severity their disease, increased enhanced The latter evident postmenopausal hyperthyroid females whose normally low. Whether or not relationship between thyroid status metabolism due direct influence hormones glycolytic pathways secondary changes either lipid turnover estrogen remains speculative. Since both seem reflect intracellular deficiency hormone, these parameters can be utilized, within certain limitations, as test peripheral function. striking “thyromimetic” effects DPN infusion, demonstrated hypothyroid patients, its lack metabolic effect controls, suggests cellular action may mediated, large measure, through ratio oxidized reduced DPN. limits panhypopituitarism, this procedure useful adjunct differentiating primary from failure problem cases.
