摘要: Gender differences in the prevalence of cardiovascular disease have been observed both clinically and experimentally. These cardioprotective effects frequently attributed to female hormones, however, underlying mechanisms responsible for this cardioprotection are still poorly understood. Accordingly, study sought determine contribution ovarian hormones prevention adverse ventricular remodeling congestive heart failure chronic volume overload (i.e. aortocaval fistula intact or ovariectomized rats). Ovariectomized rats developed more extensive cardiac than females at 21 weeks post-fistula, characterized by significantly greater left (LV) hypertrophy (167 vs. 86%, respectively, p < 0.05) a substantial increase LV dilatation (71%, relative control. In contrast eccentric hypertrophic response hearts was essentially concentric. While neither group suffered significant mortality, there marked lung weight (87%, consistent with development pulmonary edema. Overall, extent myocardial decrease function comparable those changes reported males symptomatic failure, while maintained compensated similar that controls. The symptoms seen post-fistula clearly demonstrate influence circulating on pattern resulting from overload.
