摘要: Background Urticaria is a common cause for consultation in general and specialised medical practices. There scarce information on the characteristics of patients suffering acute urticaria Latin America. Objectives To investigate demographic clinical features with attending two allergy clinics Caracas, Venezuela. Methods A prospective study all new who consulted during three-year period because urticaria. Information age, gender, symptom duration, previous history, body distribution wheals angio-oedema, laboratory investigations, skin prick tests, pharmacological treatment, was collected. Patients were classified according to their age as children/adolescents adults. Results Two hundred forty eight (177 adults 71 children) studied. Acute more frequent middle-aged atopic female patients. Lesions often involved upper lower limbs head, 31% exhibited generalised Laboratory performed only selected cases, did not contribute final diagnosis. Most subtypes spontaneous, dermographic, papular, drug-induced treated non-sedating antihistamines, increased use cetirizine levocetirizine children, while 5.6% children 20.3% required addition short courses systemic corticosteroids. Conclusions Acute allergists, affecting The extensive complementary tests does seem be cost-effective this condition. Spontaneous, papular are most subtypes.
