摘要: Refractory metal diboride articles having an overall density of 50-90 percent theoretical and a matrix near density, e.g., 95-99 are described. They may be made by cold pressing sintering intimate mixture submicron Group IVb powder finely divided solid hydrocarbon, microcrystalline petroleum wax. The hydrocarbon remains particulate in the pressed piece but is driven out heat at beginning operation, thereby leaving voids which remain as gross pores surrounded dense sintered article. Submicron boride powders capable forming contain minor proportion or densifying aid such carbon carbide titanium carbide, tungsten boron carbide. so produced lighter weight than non-porous same size, have high electrical conductivity and, virtue matrix, excellent resistance to chemical attack.
