Variability in upwelling along the Pacific shelf of Panama and implications for the distribution of nutrients and chlorophyll

摘要: Seasonal dynamics of dissolved inorganic nutrients (NO3 ,P O4� , and Si(OH)4) chlorophyll a were investigated in the Pacific shelf Panama. The is divided into two large semi-open areas, namely non-upwelling Gulf Chiriquiand upwelling Four research cruises sampled water column cross-shelf transects during wet dry seasons at each region. Hydrological measures varied spatially between regions also temporally on seasonal basis. Low concentrations NO3 ( 0.5 mg m � 3 ) typically developed close to usually shallow thermocline conditions. We found no evidence significant nutrient input from freshwater runoff. position con- sidered be main source euphotic zone both regions. 2007 Elsevier Ltd. All rights reserved.
