Using persuasive refutation texts to prompt attitudinal and conceptual change

摘要: We investigated knowledge and attitudes before after reading refutation texts augmented by different kinds of persuasive information how emotions mediated the process attitude change. Undergraduates (N = 424) enrolled in 4 universities from 3 countries read a text on genetically modified foods (GMFs) were then randomly assigned to receive additional about advantages GMFs, disadvantages or both. After studying, students GMFs had significantly more positive than who disadvantages. There was also significant reduction misconceptions; participants positive-oriented condition showed largest learning gains, particularly those held initial attitudes. Epistemic curiosity, frustration, hope, enjoyment change while confusion relations between prereading postreading knowledge. In addition, direct relationship prior surprise moderated type text.
