摘要: Birdsong is one of the main models in sexual selection studies. Most investigations focused on oscines which male song and female preference learning occur. Yet, some non-oscines are well suited for such studies as well. In Columbidae does not However, like oscines, involved inter- intra-sexual interactions. Surprisingly, experimental evidence song-based preferences still largely lacking this group. We conducted playback tests wild-caught Streptopelia decaocto females. tested function by playing songs versus an unrelated species. then investigated responses to trill. Although they do produce trait, males react more strongly artificially trilled songs, i.e. conspecific a trill from S. roseogrisea has been inserted, than normal songs. also Females flew often with shorter latency during wren suggesting that species recognition occurred, but we found no The low activity observed experiment might have obscured actual preferences. Nevertheless, females consistently reacted or This contrasts strong virtual lack reaction males. Thus, collared doves, receivers, may different characteristics impose constraints evolution song.
