摘要: We have shown previously that asbestos and other mineral dusts, including glass fibers, induce cell transformation chromosomal mutations in Syrian hamster embryo cells culture. In the present study, we observed both fibers were phagocytized by these accumulated perinuclear region of cytoplasm. order to understand mechanism fiber length-dependent cellular effects, examined phagocytosis intracellular distribution differing lengths at various times after treatment. Glass length was decreased milling with a mortar pestle. Cells treated an equal dose milled (on weight per surface area basis) exposed 7-fold more since resulted decrease little change diameter. However, similar number as mass unmilled indicating less readily phagocytized. either or than 2-fold greater on surface, suggesting selectively internalized longer fibers. Fiber length, however, did not appear affect migration Even though contained those resulting cytotoxicity, frequency, frequency micronuclei greatly reduced cultures Thus, appears well ability cytogenetic damage resultant transformation.
