Rapid determination of lycopene and β-carotene in tomato by liquid chromatography/electrospray tandem mass spectrometry

摘要: BACKGROUND: The tomato fruit is a dietary source of carotenoids, bioactive antioxidant compounds that play an important role in the prevention degenerative diseases. Several extraction and detection techniques regarding carotenoids tomatoes can be found literature, mainly based on high-performance liquid chromatography separation ultraviolet-visible detection. RESULTS: best conditions tandem mass spectrometry (MS) analysis were evaluated: lycopene β-carotene extracted cyclohexane/ethyl acetate mixture without addition antioxidants, next separated by C18 column then determined through electrospray MS. Ionic suppression matrix negative ionisation mode did not allow extracts, hence positive was chosen. Validation parameters demonstrated suitability for purpose analytical method: accuracy, precision, linearity limits adequate. method finally applied to different samples, differences could easily highlighted. CONCLUSION: simple, fast appropriate analysing tomatoes. Copyright © 2011 Society Chemical Industry
