摘要: Abstract Background Idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis (IPF) is a chronic and progressive fibrotic lung disease leading to respiratory failure death in 2–5 years from diagnosis. To date, clinical course of prognosis cannot be predicted with an acceptable accuracy. Recently, alveolar concentration nitric oxide (CaNO) has been proposed as marker severity IPF, but its prognostic value this setting unknown. Aim the study evaluate reliability CaNO biomarker patients IPF. Methods In Siena Referral Centre for Interstitial Lung Diseases, multiple-flows exhaled analysis was performed measure cohort 88 IPF 60 healthy controls. population, we functional progression survival according follow-up our Centre. Clinical, radiological data were collected at baseline investigate correlations levels. Results showed significantly higher levels than controls (p  Conclusion We confirm that correlation parameters. Moreover, ≥6 and ≥9 ppb correlated mortality progression, respectively. These suggest CaNO, non-invasive reproducible biomarker, may predict outcome
