摘要: Publisher Summary For carrying out an extensive investigation on the role of silicon in metabolism and shell formation diatoms, it is necessary to devise methods for obtaining synchronized cultures that can be used a wide variety biochemical studies, provide large amounts cell material, at high degree synchrony. Two systems inducing synchrony have been developed: (1) silicon-starvation, which results wall, (2) light-dark regime, produces complete cycle growth division. In case silicon-starvation synchrony, exponential culture grown light medium containing limited amount silicon, but excess other essential nutrients. At period starvation, increase number stops initiation wall occurs most cells. Upon addition completed with resulting synchronous number. if placed dark 24 hours. end this period, division ceases consists part small, young The then exposed repetitive cycle, such provides enough energy one allows completion cycle.
