Effect of the particulate size on mechanical properties of alumina–zirconia composites

摘要: Abstract The effect of particulate size alumina addition on mechanical properties zirconia containing 3 mol% Y 2 O 3 (3Y-TZP) was investigated. Composites 15 vol.% Al either as broken or unbroken platelets ranging from 1 to 11 μm were fabricated by hot isostatic pressing. Additions YSZ resulted in enhanced fracture toughness with a trend lower values K Ic increasing platelet size. Observations cracks produced Vickers indentation and in-situ crack propagation studies lead assume that the enlarged process zone formation elastic bridges observed is believed be contribution R-curve properties.
