摘要: The Explorer 33 satellite was launched July 1, 1966 and injected into a highly elliptical earth orbit. Goddard Space Flight Center magnetic field experiment onboard the spacecraft consists of triaxial fluxgate sensor with maximum dynamic range ±64 gammas sensitivity ±0.25 gamma along each axis. Because initial apogee-earth-sun angle 118° west sun, first 8 orbits (July 1 to November 11, 1966) mapped earth's magnetosheath tail from western flank bow shock eastern flank. This mapping geomagnetic out 80 radii established that extends beyond lunar orbital distance. has also found is still detectable boundary between interplanetary downstream at geocentric distance 75.7 radii. measurements have further suggested cross section probably not cylindrical shown magnitude in decreases down earth.
