High prevalence of vitamin D insufficiency in healthy elderly people living at home in Argentina.

摘要: Objective: To evaluate the nutritional status of vitamin D in urban populations healthy elderly people living at home, different regions Argentina. Design: Cross-sectional study. Subjects: In total, 386 ambulatory subjects over 65 y age from seven cities (between latitude 26°S and 55°S) were asked to participate between end winter beginning spring. Of these, 369 accepted, 30 excluded because medical history or abnormal biochemical determinations. Finally, 339 (226 women 113 men) (X±s.d.) (71.3± 5.2 y) included. Results: Serum 25OHD levels lowest South (latitude range: 41°S–55°S): 14.2±5.6 ng/ml (P<0.0001vs North Mid regions); highest (26°S–27°S): 20.7±7.4 ng/ml (P<0.03 vs Mid, P<0.0001vs South); intermediate region (33°S–34°S) 17.9±8.2 ng/ml. mid-molecule PTH (mmPTH) inversely related: (r=−0.24, P<0.001). A cutoff level which serum mmPTH began increase was established 27 ng/ml. high prevalence (87–52%) with deficiency-insufficiency range (25OHD <20 ng/ml) detected. Conclusion: This study shows that deficiency/insufficiency is a worldwide problem. Correction this deficit would have positive impact on bone health people.
