摘要: Abstract Background Chromium (Cr) and cobalt (Co) metal ions released from orthopedic prostheses, such as metal-on-metal (MoM) bearings, may be related to wear of the bearing surface. These serve indicators in vivo performance MoM surfaces. We developed a simple sensitive assay suitable for simultaneous measurement serum Cr Co using inductively coupled plasma-mass spectrometry (ICP-MS) clinical routine laboratory practice evaluate analytical utility. Methods evaluated linearity, precision, lower limit quantification (LOQ) an ICP-MS method determine concentration accordance with U.S. Food Drug Administration guidance bioanalytical validation. This was used levels 236 samples 74 patients hip prosthesis 51 healthy controls. Results The showed good linearity (0–20 μg/l, r2 > 0.999) satisfactory accuracy all tested concentrations (%bias, –1.5% 2.5%, –3.3% 1.6%, respectively). CVs both were Conclusions can simultaneously quantify including wide range very low LOQ. will useful evaluating nutritional status humans well monitoring prostheses after resurfacing arthroplasty.
