摘要: We applied marine spatial planning (MSP) to manage conflicts in a multi-use coastal area of Kenya. MSP involves several steps which were supported by using geographical information systems (GISs), multi-criteria decision analysis (MCDA) and optimization. GIS was used identifying overlapping uses mapping conflict hotspots. MCDA incorporate the preferences user groups managers into formal procedure. Optimization generating optimal allocation alternatives competing uses. Through this three important objectives that build foundation for future Kenya's waters achieved: 1) engaging stakeholders; 2) illustrating how can be adapted aid decision-making regions; 3) developing draft use plan. The successful application resolve regions depends on level stakeholder involvement, data availability existing knowledge base.
