摘要: Rod-like polyelectrolytes represent ideal model systems for a comprehensive com- parison of theory and experiment because their conformation is independent the ionic strength in system. Hence, correlation counterions to highly charged macroion can be studied without interference conformational effects. In this chapter synthesis solution behavior rigid, rod-like cationic having poly(p-phenylene) (PPP) backbones reviewed. These polymers characterized pre- cisely possess degrees polymerization up Pn ! 70. The analysis un- precursor polymer demonstrated that PPP backbone has high persistence length (ca. 22 nm) hence may regarded an excellent approximation as macromolecules. properties PPP-polyelectrolytes were analyzed using electric birefringence, small-angle X-ray scattering (SAXS) osmometry. Measurements birefringence demonstrate these form molecularly disperse sys- tems aqueous solution. dependence on concentration added salt indicates increase leads stronger binding counteri- ons polyion. Data obtained from osmometry di- rectly compared prediction Poisson-Boltzmann simulations restricted primitive model. Semi-quantitative agreement achieved.
