摘要: Abstract The main aim of this paper is to propose a method measure the performance ancient throwing machines powered by torsional motors. This could be achieved using model motor that allowed evaluating spring(s) elastic energy and describing machine kinematics; thus, speed projectile was calculated from moment trigger pulled instant in which left machine. Since ratio between dimensions parts constant (they were designed on modulus), once size one part (e.g. remain) known, whole predicted. Finally, calculation examples are presented for ballista according Vitruvius' reports repeating catapult; results obtained show those “ancient artillery devices” thrust with considerable energy.
