Quality of abstracts of original research articles in CMAJ in 1989

摘要: PURPOSE: To evaluate the quality of abstracts original research articles. DESIGN: Blind, criterion-based survey. SAMPLE: Systematic sample 33 articles published in CMAJ 1989. MEASUREMENT: The was measured against a checklist evaluation criteria, which were divided into eight categories. A score for each abstract obtained by dividing number criteria present applicable. overall mean also determined. RESULTS: 0.63 (standard deviation 0.13) out 1. Of reporting study design 56% did not include specific technical descriptors. About 52% explicitly describe variables. In describing subject selection 79% failed to use terms. results 66% provide appropriate supporting data. those that gave conclusions 86% address limitations and 93% made no recommendations future study. CONCLUSION: Most provided some information pertaining criterion but detail sufficient enhance reader9s understanding article.
