摘要: In the post-genome era, insufficient functional annotation of predicted genes greatly restricts potential mining genome data. We demonstrate that an evolutionary approach, which is independent annotation, has great as a tool for analysis. chose model filamentous fungus Neurospora crassa example. Phylogenetic distribution each protein coding gene (PCG) in N. was used to classify into six mutually exclusive lineage specificity (LS) groups, i.e. Eukaryote/Prokaryote-core, Dikarya-core, Ascomycota-core, Pezizomycotina-specific, crassa-orphans and Others. Functional category analysis revealed only approximately 23% PCGs two most highly lineage-specific grouping, Pezizomycotina-specific crassa-orphans, have annotation. contrast, 76% remaining four LS groups Analysis chromosomal localization crassa-orphan encoding secreted proteins showed enrichment subtelomeric regions. The origin not known. found 11% paralogous genes. Of pairs, 33% were tandemly located genome, implying duplication past. grouping thus useful explore understand organization, evolution function fungi.
