摘要: WERNICKE-KORSAKOFF encephalopathy is a serious neurological syndrome caused by thiamine deficiency and characterized ataxia, ophthalmoplegia, nystagmus, mental confusion.1Although this common in alcoholics, it may occur number of other circumstances, including gastric carcinoma, pyloric obstruction,2hyperemesis gravidarum,1and prolonged intravenous (IV) hyperalimentation.3 We report two cases Wernicke-Korsakoff as previously unrecognized complication plication for the treatment morbid obesity. Both patients were young women, to four months after plication, had protracted vomiting surgery without vitamin supplementation. Report Cases Case 1.— A 33-year-old woman weighing 130 kg was admitted community hospital obesity on July 31, 1980. She tolerated procedure well discharged postgastrectomy diet. required hospitalizations during ten weeks persistent nausea vomiting.
