Controlled synthesis of carbon nanotubes and linear C chains by arc discharge in liquid nitrogen

摘要: Arc discharge between two graphite rods in liquid nitrogen has been investigated order to identify the main factors ruling formation of carbon nanotubes (CNTs) and linear C chains. The influence experimental parameters on structural properties produced materials was evaluated interpreted, taking into account existing models. We found that electrode size current values greatly quality (e.g., presence carbonaceous impurities, innermost tube diameter) a proper combination these allows one control synthesis CNTs and/or CNT-linear chain hybrid systems.
