Association of crossword puzzle participation with memory decline in persons who develop dementia

摘要: Participation in cognitively stimulating leisure activities such as crossword puzzles may delay onset of the memory decline preclinical stages dementia, possibly via its effect on improving cognitive reserve. We followed 488 initially intact community residing individuals with clinical and assessments every 12-18 months Bronx Aging Study. assessed influence puzzle participation accelerated measured by Buschke Selective Reminding Test 101 who developed incident dementia using a change point model. Crossword at baseline delayed 2.54 years. Inclusion education or other did not significantly add to fit model beyond puzzles. Our findings show that late life participation, independent education, was associated persons dementia. Given wide availability accessibility puzzles, their role preventing should be validated future trials.
