Perception of Immigrants in Europe: A Multilevel Assessment of Macrolevel Conditions

摘要: Objective In recent times, immigration has been a controversial topic. Discussions about have become common household conversation. The primary objective of the current study is to explore dynamics native‐born citizens' attitudes toward immigrants and examine potential influence macro‐level conditions. Methods employed multi‐level techniques effects on across 22 European countries. Specifically, three Hierarchical Linear Models were conducted achieve study's stated objective. Results Modeling (HLM) analyses revealed that country's level economic development as measured by changes in gross domestic product (GDP) education significantly influenced views immigrants. Moreover, number (per 1,000 residents) crime rates determine whether Europeans will view foreigners positively or negatively. Nevertheless, unemployment rate had no significant effect perceptions Several individual‐level characteristics found predict among Europeans. Conclusion from this endeavor provide insights for addressing misconceptions also help understanding, empirical standpoint, how citizens form their
