摘要: In marine ecosystems, dinoflagellates can become highly abundant and even dominant at times, despite their comparatively slow growth rates. One factor that may play a role in ecological success is the production of complex secondary metabolite compounds have anti-predator, allelopathic, or other toxic effects on organisms, also cause seafood poisoning humans. Our knowledge about genes involved toxin biosynthesis currently limited due to genomic features these organisms. Most recently, sequencing dinoflagellate transcriptomes has provided us with valuable insights into polyketide alkaloid-based molecules species. This review synthesizes recent progress been made understanding evolution, biosynthetic pathways, gene regulation aid transcriptomic molecular genetic tools, provides pathway for future studies this exciting omics era.
