摘要: OBJECTIVES: Disability-adjusted life years (DALYs) measure the burden of disease and injury in a population. We tested feasibility calculating DALYs to assess Rhode Island (RI). METHODS: computed for 2008 RI population using methods developed by World Health Organization, Harvard University, Bank. are composite that sum lost (YLLs) due premature mortality with lived disability (YLDs). calculated crude mortality, YLLs, YLDs, 90 major health conditions stratified them gender age. Calculations YLLs YLDs were based on five-year averages. compared our results U.S. Los Angeles County, California, estimates. RESULTS: A ranking produces different picture RI's than does mortality-based ranking. Of assessed RI, six top 10 causes same, but ranked differently: ischemic heart disease, cerebrovascular Alzheimer dementia other dementias, trachea/bronchus/lung cancer, chronic obstructive pulmonary diabetes mellitus. These accounted 59% deaths only 35% DALYs. Causes rank orders differed between males females among age groups. CONCLUSIONS: Including nonfatal an assessment provides traditional assessments. This study demonstrates constraints at state level. Language: en
