摘要: Accumulation of leukocytes at sites inflammation is essential for host defense, yet secretory products the white cells may augment injury by damaging surrounding healthy tissues. Members chemokine family chemotactic cytokines play a fundamental role in this process attracting and stimulating specific subsets leukocytes. In vitro studies suggest that chemokines participate least three phases leukocyte recruitment. First, they foster tight adhesion circulating to vascular endothelium activating leukocytic integrins. Second, because their chemoattractant properties, guide through endothelial junctions underlying tissue inflammatory focus. Finally, activate effector functions leukocytes, including production reactive oxygen intermediates exocytosis degradative enzymes. Animal which antibodies are used neutralize activity individual members confirm these mediators contribute development both acute chronic conditions. A number mechanisms operate vivo limit proinflammatory properties chemokines. Therapies target directly or enhance body's controlling prove be reasonable approaches treatment diseases.
