摘要: An 11-month survey was undertaken to assess the relative abundance and distribution of large flying fox, Pteropus vampyrus, in peninsular Malaysia. A total 115 locations were visited based on sites that identified from personal observations, published records, information obtained local villagers wildlife forestry personnel. Our suggests a severe decline P vampyrus throughout At nearly half all visited, there no recent records or observations this species. Several used seasonal basis, others appeared have been abandoned due disturbance habitat loss, still may extirpated by hunting. Most extant colonies are presumably located deep isolated inaccessible forests dense riparian vegetation such as mangrove freshwater swamps. We suggest unregulated hunting loss primary reasons for species Inadequacies existing laws should be addressed public awareness program launched so an effective conservation management plan can formulated ensure long-term survival ecologically important
