摘要: A light-weight system for continuous positive airway pressure (CPAP) based on a nasal vestibular cannula and miniature gas jet has been tried out in 29 newborns with severe idiopathic respiratory distress syndrome (IRDS) nine infants suffering from insufficiency caused by lower tract infections. In IRDS, permanent effect was achieved 20% when the birth weight below 1501 g, 74% higher. The infections all recovered without further ventilatory support. Significant complications occurred only two infants, both of whom developed pneumothorax. forms simple safe alternative to existing CPAP systems suitable use as well older lung diseases resulting alveolar collapse.
