摘要: Prokaryote respiration is expected to be responsible for more than half of the community in ocean, but lack a practical method measure rate prokaryote open ocean resulted very few published data leaving role organotrophic prokaryotes debate. Oxygen consumption rates oceanic measured with current methods may biased due pre-incubation size filtration and long incubation times both which can change physiological taxonomic profile sample during period. In vivo INT reduction has been used terrestrial samples estimate rates, recently, was introduced applied aquatic ecology. We oxygen formazan cultures marine bacterioplankton communities, Vibrio harveyi eukaryote Isochrysis galbana. For prokaryotes, we observed decrease increasing concentrations between 0.05 1 mM. Time series after 0.5 mM addition showed burst rapid decline zero within less an hour. Our non-axenic suggest poisoning eukaryote. Prokaryotes are clearly poisoned by on time scales 1 h, invalidating interpretation as proxy rates.
