摘要: Abstract In batch mixers the stirring of a fluid is known to be particularly effective when motion rods form nontrivial braids. This desirable as it generates (predictable) exponential stretching material lines. Additionally, has also been recognized that flow structures themselves (such periodic islands) may adopt role proxy or “ghost” rods. For number designs (which braids), we investigate prevalence ghost effectively replace stationary (baffles) latter are removed from mixer. We show (for case Stokes flow) with fewer baffles have comparable stretch factors corresponding all present.
