摘要: Workingmemory,theshort-termmaintenanceandmanipulationofinformation,reliesstronglyonneuralactivityinthefrontalcortex. Understanding the functional role of this activity is a prerequisite for understanding cognitive control mechanisms. Functional imaging studies in human participants have attempted to reveal neural correlates subdivision visual working memory into different processes (maintenance vs manipulation) and according type memorized content. Here, we show, using magneticresonanceimaging,acontent-specificdissociationoffrontalactivity,withdorsalpremotorareassupportingbothmaintenance andmanipulationofspatialfeaturesandmoreventralareassupportingmaintenanceandmanipulationofcolor.Manipulation-specific was observed anterior middle frontal gyrus, inferior junction, parietal lobe bilaterally. These areas been implicated control, their activation by manipulation task conforms demand on central executive resources condition. We suggest that enhanced compared with maintenancewasmetbyinterplayofcontent-andtask-specificmodulesinafrontoparietalnetwork.
