摘要: Obesity has reached epidemic proportions in the USA. Consequently, there is an increasing number of obese diabetic patients who would otherwise be appropriate candidates for pancreas transplantation (PTx). This a retrospective study all PTx performed at Indiana University between 2003 and 2009 (n = 308) comparing recipients with body mass index (BMI) < 25, 25-29.9, ≥30 kg/m(2) Data included recipient donor demographics, seven 90-d graft loss, one-yr pancreas, kidney (for SPK only) patient survival, causes loss death, peak amylase lipase, length stay, readmissions, complications, HbA1C, c-peptide. Of 308 PTx, 100 (32%) were overweight 42 (14%) obese. Obese older more likely to men. Donor demographics similar. There was no difference seven-d or cause 30-d C-peptide. The incidence post-transplant technical, immunological infectious complications similar except increased cytomegalovirus infection group. Two returned insulin therapy despite normal C-peptide levels. Although technically challenging, can successful select results compared BMI recipients.
