摘要: Abstract Objective To describe and compare the intraoperative blood loss in children who underwent tonsillectomy and/or adenoidectomy during a transition from using electrocautery to microdebrider. Methods Retrospective case series of single pediatric otolaryngologist at an urban general hospital. Patients aged 2–20 years had tonsillectomy, adenoidectomy, or adenotonsillectomy over 12 month period were included. Tonsillectomy was performed by microdebrider microdebrider, curette, suction electrocautery. Total measured compared between surgical techniques. Results Of 148 patients, 109 with without 39 alone. The mean 47 ml 1.8 ± 1.6 ml/kg maximum 11 ml/kg. Adenoid curette adenoid yielded similar but associated more bleeding than ( P = 0.0002). Eighteen percent patients lost greater 5% calculated circulating volume (95% CI, 9.8–26). Linear regression models did not show association amount patient age, clinical indication, surgeon's experience > 0.05). Conclusions Microdebrider is tonsillectomy. Approximately twice as much absolute increase insignificant hemodynamic perspective.
