摘要: Abstract Objective The aim of this study was to compare microdebrider subcapsular tonsillectomy (MST) with total tonsillectomies either by harmonic scalpel (TTH) or electrocautery (TTE) in children obstructive sleep-disordered breathing from tonsillar hypertrophy. Design Retrospective review prospectively collected data. Setting Tertiary academic hospital. Patients Eighty consecutive hypertrophy who underwent MST between January and April 2003 were compared a smaller historical cohort 25 patients TTEs TTHs December 2001. Main outcome measures Primary: days no narcotic pain medicine use solid food intake; secondary: estimated blood loss, surgical time, postoperative complications. Results Fifty-four MSTs met criteria for 79 patients. cohorts showed significant demographic differences groups. group had significantly shorter duration (3.7 ± 0.5 days) than the TTE (7.0 0.6 TTH groups (6.8 0.7 days; P = 0.004). There higher loss (38.8 6.1 mL) (19 mL 8.2) (15.1 7.4 mL; .018). Conclusion Microdebrider is valuable treatment because decreased more rapid return food.
