Influence of cortico-striatal afferents on striatal kainic acid neurotoxicity

摘要: Abstract Decortication, which causes degeneration of the cortico-striatal glutamateric afferents, markedly attentuates neurotoxic action kainic acid in striatum. Injection 1 μmol L-glutamate alone decorticate striatum does not cause neuronal whereas injection 10 nmol kainate with partially restores kainate's neurotoxicity. The results suggest that neurotoxicity is affected by synaptic input to vulnerable neurons and may involve a cooperative interaction synaptically released L-glutamate.
