摘要: Swallowing is a complex neurogenic sensorimo- tor process involving all levels of the neuraxis and vast num- ber muscles anatomic structures. Disruption any these or functional components can lead to swallow- ing disorders (also known as dysphagia). Understanding neural pathways that govern swallowing necessary in diag- nosing treating patients with dysphagia. Functional MRI (fMRI) prevalent effective neuroimaging method has been used study neurophysiologic control vivo. This article presents summary research studies have fMRI con- trol normal subjects dysphagic patients, investigate effects treatments on neu- roplasticity. Methodologic challenges caveats are dis- cussed, case pre-posttreatment paradigm presented highlight potential future directions appli- cations clinical practice. V C 2011 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.
