Effect of ozone and ozone/activated carbon treatments on genotoxic activity of naphthalenesulfonic acids

摘要: Naphthalenesulfonic compounds are widely used, mainly by the textile industry in synthesis of azoic colorants. The presence sulfonic group is known to endow these with high water-solubility and low biodegradability, although its influence on their genotoxic activity unknown. use energetic oxidants recommended for degradation organic which refractory biological treatment. Ozone ozone/activated carbon have been proposed as best alternatives remove compounds. results showed that more groups there aromatic ring this family contaminants, lower activity. All studied presented at elevated concentrations. Ames test indicate DNA damage was produced substitution nitrogenated bases. system based combined ozone activated most efficacious depuration water containing contaminants. This approach rapidly degraded naphthalenesulfonic acids, eliminated reduced material content using doses ozone. © 2002 Society Chemical Industry
