摘要: By using Global Positioning System technology, we documented the long-distance dispersal of a wolf (Canis lupus) from northern Apennines in Italy to western Alps France. This is first report wolves human-dominated landscapes southern Europe, providing conclusive evidence that expanding population originates Apennine source through natural recolonization. crossing 4 major 4-lane highways, agricultural areas, and several regional provincial jurisdictions, trajectory M15 revealed single, narrow linkage connecting Alpine populations. connectivity should be ensured allow moderate gene flow between 2 populations counteract potential bottleneck effects reduced genetic variability population. The case provides an example how hard data can effective mitigating public controversies originating expansion recolonization processes large carnivore In addition, by highlighting these transboundary populations, suggest documenting particularly critical support population-based, management programs.
