摘要: The use of tantalum is well established in orthopaedic surgery. It has a modulus elasticity that close to bone and high yield ultimate strength allowing it be used form large, weight-bearing constructs with volumetric porosity conducive osseointegration. However, its role soft tissue re-attachment remains undefined due variable clinical outcomes. Successful tendons mega-prostheses, tumour revision surgery, been reported but several authors report almost universal failure long term patella augments when no residual stock present. postulated these failures are lack stability the implants an inhibitory effect on integration. Tantalum previously considered excellent biomaterial for integration based animal studies where were retrieved subjected mechanical testing. suggest this in-growth does not reliably tolerate loads generated setting. Furthermore, recent laboratory evidence suggests may fact directly inhibit fibroblasts, limiting potential mature collagen fibrillogenesis. This review collates from laboratory, inform guide future directions research drive improved outcomes
