摘要: The increasing frequency of therapeutic failures in falciparum malaria Thailand shows an urgent need for effective drugs or drug combinations. Artesunate, a qinghaosu derivative, is clearing parasitaemia rapidly, but the recrudescence rate can be as high 50%. We have compared artesunate followed by mefloquine with each alone acute, uncomplicated malaria. 127 patients were randomly assigned treatment (600 mg over 5 days), (750 then 500 6 h later), mefloquine. All admitted to hospital 28 days exclude reinfection. Cure was defined no during days' follow-up. cure rates and 81% (30/37 patients) 88% (35/40); combination all 39 patients. Fever parasite clearance times significantly shorter groups that received than mefloquine-only group. nausea vomiting slightly, not significantly, higher among who both other groups. highly well tolerated Thailand.
