摘要: The acute effect of oil pollution on birds is their thermal balance. Oil adheres to the plumage and causes a reduction in water repellant properties plumage, causing penetrate into displace insulating layer air. insulation dose-dependent. oiling greatly enhanced when spread due preening. In water, may cause heat loss exceed bird's production capacity, resulting hypothermia. If oiled bird ashore, with dry it have normal insulation. Bird species dependent upon feeding (such as diving birds) are therefore much more susceptible harmful effects than semi-aquatic that can feed ashore. It possible restore water-repelling insulative by process cleaning if all soap removed, completely dry. Chemical treatment has been suggested way reduce impact spills avian life. However, very few reports seem addressed chemically treated balance birds, results from one study actually indicate dispersants be oil. urgent need for information about aquatic stressed.
