A review on Citrullus colocynthis Schrad.: from traditional Iranian medicine to modern phytotherapy.

摘要: Abstract Citrullus colocynthis Schrad. is an annual plant that grows in the south, center, and east areas of Iran. It recognized by different pharmacologic activities traditional Iranian medicine (TIM) (i.e., purgative, anti-inflammatory, antidiabetic, analgesic, hair growth–promoting, abortifacient, antiepileptic. Some these were confirmed modern phytotherapy. Adverse events such as colic, diarrhea, hematochezia, nephrosis, vomiting narrow therapeutic index cause herbalists to use this cautiously. If some points about TIM are considered, it may be possible produce more tolerable preparations from plant. In article, all aspects reviewed; also, medicinal properties declared for compared with those showed addition, opinions phytotherapy safety acceptable dosage discussed.
