摘要: Xylitol, a natural sugar alcohol and caries-preventive carbohydrate sweetener, inhibits xylitol-sensitive wild-type Streptococcus mutans but also selects for its xylitol-resistant mutants. The aim of the work was to verify influence xylitol on heat shock proteins HSP-60 (GroEL-like) HSP-70 (DnaK-like) in strains. Cells from fresh isolate S. 123.1 were grown at 37 degrees C constant pH 7.0. cell culture stressed by raising temperature 43 or adding (4% final). Cell labeled with cocktail 14C-amino acids analyzed SDS-PAGE autoradiography whereas visualized using Western immunoblotting. In both strains, stress associated an increase (63 kDa) (71 decrease intensity number other protein bands compared cells maintained C. Exposure not polyols induced these strain did modify them mutant. It decreased all above 60 kDa together 53 increased amount 57-, 50- 40-kDa remained unchanged. results suggest that is strong metabolic inhibitor disturbs synthesis reduces expression mutant strain.
