摘要: In order to support the emerging network of long-term ecological research (LTER) sites across Europe, European Union has launched ALTER-Net, a aiming at lasting integration socio-economic, and biodiversity research. Due its high population density long history human habitation, however, Europe’s ecosystems are generally intensively used. Social natural drivers so inextricably intertwined that notion ‘socio-ecological’ systems is appropriate. Traditional science-based approaches insufficient understand these integrated systems, as they cannot adequately capture their relevant socio-economic dimensions. This particularly because EU ALTER-Net an explicit aim sustainability, goal requires As such, LTER challenged significantly expand focus from socio-ecological thus transforming itself or LTSER. this transformation, chapter explores several for conceptualising dimensions It discusses how metabolism approach can be combined with theories complex adaptive generate heuristic models society–nature interaction which then used integrate concepts social sciences. particular, possible contributions fields anthropology economics shows participatory innovative agent-based modelling arrive representation help local communities move towards sustainability.
