摘要: The morphology of immiscible and highly incompatible blends Sorona® polymer [Poly(trimethylene terephthalate), PTT] ethylene propylene diene rubber (EPDM) has been studied with without the addition a compatibilizer precursor EPM-g-MA. These are characterized by two-phase morphology, narrow interphase, poor physical chemical interactions across phase boundaries. Therefore, reactive route was employed to compatibilize these maleic anhydride grafted (EPM-g-MA). were prepared in an internal mixer. examined scanning electron microscopy (SEM) after preferential extraction minor phase. SEM micrographs quantitatively analyzed for domain size measurements. indicated that EPDM preferentially dispersed as domains continuous matrix up 30% its concentration. A co-continuous observed above 30 wt% content followed inversion beyond 60 EPDM. influence EPM-g-MA on SEM. It found reduces leveling off at higher concentrations compatibilizer. This is indication interfacial saturation. experimental compatibilization results compared theoretical predictions. conformation interface based area occupied blend interface. Free volume measurements using positron annihilation lifetime spectroscopy (PALS) done analyze interaction blends. In case uncompatibilized free values tend increase showing high level incompatibility. Addition tends decrease compatibilizing effect.
